Short and Long Term
Goals can be both short or long term and instrumental or missional? Leaders are positioned and empowered to be influential agents of change. Effective leaders calculate their goal and steps needed to reach them. As a developing leader, I have separated my goals into two categories short and long term.
Both my short and long term goals are missional. Missional thinking set goals and then considers what tools I can use to advance my goal. On the contrary, instrumental thinking focuses on the tool and allows the tool to guide the goal. Being missional minded when setting goals give me the advantage of pursuing my goals using any instrument. It allows me to keep the same goal even if the method changes. As technology evolves, I can use cutting edge technology to advance my goals.
My short term goals includes incorporating science, technology, engineering, and math in my daily instruction. I can reach this goal by finishing the MSU Urban STEM fellowship and becoming more knowledgeable in STEM. Another short term goal is to assist educators in developing their instructional pedagogy by becoming a consultant teacher within Chicago Public Schools for school year 2016-2017.
My long term goals include assisting educators in including technology in their classrooms. Another long term goal is helping close the math achievement gap in urban schools by becoming a math coach in Chicago. To advance this goal, I will earn an algebra endorsement.
